- Coming off its debut at Sundance, Tim & Eric's Billion Dollar Movie will soon be available to stream on Facebook before its theatrical release on March 2. The event is scheduled to begin on Saturday, February 18, starting at 6pm PST. - As a thank you to our Gratwick Films' passionate fans and to celebrate Women in Horror month, The Perfect House, the first movie ever to premiere on Facebook, has reduced its price from $5 to $1.30 for a one day rental on Facebook. 30 cents from every view will be donated directly to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation® when the campaign concludes at the end of February. Gratwick Films' technology partner Milyoni, the leader in social entertainment, will also match the 30 cent donation for every view, up to $1,000.

The most obvious area is other digital goods, such as music, movies, and the like. For example, some startups such as Milyoni have already experimented with renting movies to watch through Facebook. Facebook could then start to take a 30% cut of transactions from purchases or rentals of these items as well. This doesn't have to just be media, however, it could be extended a range of other digital goods.

"Our wives definitely thought we were crazy," laughed Dean Alms, the company's head of marketing. "But you've got to put your store where the people are."

Content owners are beginning to really like Facebook. In January, TV series "Spartacus: Vengeance" from Starz Entertainment, and Abduction, an action-thriller from Lionsgate featuring "Twilight" heartthrob Taylor Lautner, both are being featured on the social network. Starz chose Jan. 20 to preview the first episode of its bloody, sexy gladiator epic on Facebook, a full week before it was set to broadcast. The result? "It broke every digital record for the franchise," said Kelly Bumann, SVP of consumer marketing for Starz Entertainment.

So far, it is mostly makers of independent films who are trying online chats. Facebook-app developer Milyoni Inc. worked with production-and-distribution company Big Air Studios to create the screening for "Archie's Final Project," one of several put together by Pleasanton, Calif.-based Milyoni. "Facebook will become a significant channel for movie distribution," says John Corpus, Milyoni chief executive. Milyoni helped studios including Time Warner Inc.'s Warner Bros. and Comcast Corp.'s Universal Pictures start online rentals of films like "Inception" and "The Big Lebowski," and has an app allowing people to shop while watching movies on Facebook.
